Ocean Knot Mat  Instructor Greg Neitzel

Description       Join local artist and educator Greg Neitzel who will lead you through the process of weaving a nautical mat from recycled fishing line. Originally woven to protect the decks of wooden boats, today these mats have been transformed into decorative art, table runners, doormats and more. In each of these classes you will learn a unique skill and weave a mat that is both beautiful and functional to take home, while at the same time repurposing braided commercial fishing line that would otherwise be discarded. Classes run between 2 and 3 hours, and students should be prepared to be on their feet during this time.

Skill Level    No previous experience necessary, however, Greg encourages you to bring your pride in craftsmanship, tenacity, and the ability to focus and concentrate for a couple of hours.

Class Size   Minimum of 3, maximum of 6

Tools    All materials and tools will be provided, but please have trimmed nails as you will be weaving the line through some tight bends and curves.

Tool Sharpening Instructor  Darrin Fiscum

Tuition  $45 members / $65 non-members

Description   Sharp tools make any job easier and safer. In this workshop you will learn how to sharpen your planes and chisels using basic stones and strops, relying on hand-eye skills rather than expensive machines.

Skill Level Beginner. No experience with hand tools necessary. Class Size Minimum of 4, maximum of 10

Pygmy Kayak Building  Instructor Chuck Bollong

Dates and Times December 9-15, 2019, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Location BMC Shop

Tuition $800 PLUS kit price.  Kit is purchased from Pygmy. Need to specify kit is for this class. This class includes some pre-assembly by the instructor prior to the first day of class. To ensure costs are covered, a $200 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration. The $600 balance is due at least 30 days prior to day one of the class.

Description 

Build an elegant stitch and glue solo kayak. This 7 day class is offered in conjunction with Pygmy Boats. Participants will leave the class with their kayak approximately 60% complete and with all the skills necessary to finish the boat at home.
